Eggplant is an important vegetable crop in the Solanaceae family, widely cultivated in Asian, African and European countries. The Asian eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is known as brinjal in Southern Asia and South Africa, and aubergine in Britain and France. In Asia, eggplant production has accounted for about 93 percent of the world's annual production for the past decade, while that in China has accounted for about 63 percent every year (Fao Stat). Eggplant has a strong regional preference. The main varieties of eggplant grown in each province vary greatly in shape and color in China. HQ-1315 is an important parent line of high-generation eggplant inbred lines with purple, linner fruits in Zhejiang province and even the Yangtze river delta region. A high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of HQ-1315 was obtained using Nanopore, 10X Genome and Illumina sequencing, combined with Hi-C technology. The sequencing was done by the eggplant laboratory of Vegetable Institute of Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
